ALAN 2025 Abstract Submission deadline extended to April 3, 2025.

ALAN 2025 is seeking presentations relating to all aspects of artificial light at night with oral presentations welcome across the following six themes:

  • Biology and Ecology,
  • Governance & Regulation,
  • Health,
  • Measurement and Modeling,
  • Social Sciences & Humanities, and
  • Technology and Design.

Whilst ALAN is primarily a scientific conference, it is open to researchers and professionals working in the area of ALAN/light pollution and its impacts or addressing solutions. Presentations are welcome in science communication, lighting design and citizen science projects.

This year’s invited speakers are Sonal Asgotraa, Ulrike Brandi, Hector Linares-Arroyo, Elena Maggi,  and Yana Yakushina. Further programme details and abstract submission, together with details of invited speakers, are available on the conference website.

Abstracts for oral presentations and posters should be submitted via Oxford Abstracts by the extended deadline of April 3, 2025. This is a competitive process and all authors are encouraged to make a compelling case in their abstract using the conference template, available at http://www.artificiallightatnight.org.  Abstracts are limited to two pages.

Posters will be presented at the conference venue during the entire conference. There will be a €100 prize for the best poster by an early stage researcher (maximum three years since PhD). Powerpoint files for oral presentations must be available in advance, no later than September 25, 2025.

To receive further announcements directly, please sign up to the ALAN mailing list and please circulate these details to your network.

Please Note:

You will need to have an Oxford Abstract Account to make a submission for ALAN 2025.

All abstracts will go through peer review. The acceptance rate for oral presentations was 64% for ALAN 2020, 62% for ALAN 2021, and 63% for ALAN2023. It is therefore in your best interest to use enough space to make a compelling case for why you should be assigned one of the oral presentation slots.

Most authors of abstracts for oral presentations that are not accepted are offered the possibility of presenting their work as a poster instead of as a talk. This is likely to be the case again for ALAN 2025 and a €100 prize will be awarded for the best poster presented by an early-stage researcher.

Posters are judged by a group of anonymous senior conference attendees and rated based on their design, the clarity and accuracy of the information provided, the novelty of the research, and the presenters ability to communicate their results orally.
