Dark Skies and Biodiversity
📅Thursday, September 26th
🕒7 – 8:30pm
This beautiful event brings together the wonder of the night sky with the fascinating world of our only true flying mammals – bats!
Join Mags Flaherty of Dark Sky Ireland, Ruth Hanniffy, Sligo Biodiversity Officer and wildlife educator Daithí Lavelle to talk about dark skies, why they are so important for us and for nature, and how we can protect them. We will explore the beautiful walled garden and woodlands of Kilglass House, and experience the bats emerging at dusk.
Please dress for the weather and the chilly night temperatures, and wear sturdy footwear. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Do bring a torch if you have one. We will keep our surroundings dark during the walk but it can be helpful at the end of the evening.
No dogs are permitted.
This event is part of SDG Week and is a partnership between Sligo County Council, Dark Sky Ireland and Leave No Trace. We are grateful to Daithí Lavelle and Kilglass House and Woodland for facilitating this event.
SDG Week is an annual week of action, awareness, and accountability for the Sustainable Development Goals.
