☆☆☆ October Lecture: Embracing Darkness: Biodiversity and the Night Sky ☆☆☆
📅Thursday, 3rd October 2024
🕛8pm
📍 The Pumphouse, Wexford Wildfowl Reserve
The Wexford Naturalists’ Field Club are pleased to welcome Marina Mulligan, Dark Sky Ireland Ambassador, to speak to us on the ecological importance of a night sky devoid of light pollution. As the world has become increasingly bright at night, what are the consequences for Irish wildlife?
This Dark Sky Ireland talk will explore the importance of naturally dark places for wildlife along with the effects of light pollution on ecosystems. With many species dependant on interactions with the night sky for feeding, breeding, migration and movement, we will delve into the ecology of these well-adapted species and discuss the opportunities that lie in protecting dark skies.
Marina is a conservation biologist who has national and international work experience, and who holds particular interests in habitat restoration, biodiversity conservation and science communication.
Lecture starts at 8pm sharp. Guest members welcome, €5 door fee applies which includes refreshments.
